Karen Clachar - Biography

She was born in Costa Rica, 1967.

Her studies at the New England School of Art & Design in Boston, Pasadena City College and the OTIS School of Art and Design in Los Angeles, as well as her time in Italy, have left a distinct imprint on her style.

She has vast experience in communications and marketing, with a B.S. in Advertising. Clachar has had active participation in several collective exhibitions both in Costa Rica and internationally. Among her most important individual exhibitions are “Rasgando Velos” (“Ripping the Veils”), at the National Gallery in San José; “El Vuelo de los Velos” at the Costa Rica Country Club and more recently “Maduro es el Tiempo”, also at the National Gallery.
November 5-17 . Casa de América Latina en Lyon, Francia
December 16-January 27. Sala de Arte Iberoamericano AMdrago´s, Madrid España.
June 2004. Galería Valanti, Costa Rica
October 2004. Arittude Galery, París.
November 2004. Costa Rica Country Club, Costa Rica

Clachar has been strongly committed to social issues which eventually led to her exultance of the female gender, in repudiation of violence and abuse. She serves as President of Hogar Siembra, a non-profit association which cares for young adolescent girls, who have lost their homes due to domestic violence, prostitution and abuse.
